Just Believe – God’s Children
God’s Children
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.John 1:12
The Old Testament sets a precedent for God being our Father:
…you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.Isaiah 64:8
…you, LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.Isaiah 63:16
These two OT verses ground God’s ‘Fatherhood’ in Him as a relational Creator and Redeemer
God as our Father means:
We are loved
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.1 John 3:1
We are free
And because wecare his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.Galatians 4:6-7 (NLT)
We are no longer slaves, we have been given freedom. I am who God says I am
We are heirs
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.1 Peter 1:3-4
As a child of God you have an inheritance that will never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance seeps into our everyday living.
