What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome.

There is no pressure and no charge. If you want some more information, there is some great stuff on the Alpha website:

What kind of subjects do we look at?

Here is the subject list for what we will be looking at each week. Remember though, you do not have to sign-up to all of it – just one week at a time.

  • Is there more to life than this?
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • How can I have faith?
  • Why and how should I read the Bible?
  • How does God guide us?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • What does the Holy Spirit do?
  • How can I resist evil?
  • Why and how should I tell others?
  • Does God heal today?
  • What about the church?

What to expect

We run Alpha at Jacob's Ladder Cafe in St Asaph (North Wales).

After introductions, we watch a video that never lasts more than 30 minutes and after the video, we break out into smaller hosted groups where you can chat and express any views you want about what you have just heard. You can say as much or as little as you'd like - there's no pressure!

There will be people from many backgrounds and stages of faith, and it is not filled with Christians who claim to know all the answers. Everyone gets a chance to give their thoughts and, with very few exceptions, everyone enjoys it. The evening is guaranteed to finish by 9.00pm.
